Diamond Open Access
We're making it easier than ever to publish and access cutting-edge research in laboratory medicine. The Journal of Mass Spectrometry and Advances in the Clinical Lab (JMSACL) is partnering with Stanford University Press as part of their non-profit publishing program.
This transition marks a significant milestone. While JMSACL will continue to be owned by MSACL, it will now benefit from the infrastructure and nonprofit mission of an academic publisher. Importantly, in 2026 the journal is supported through its publisher's limited grant funding and remains under a Diamond Open Access model, meaning there are no APCs or subscription fees to publish or read. In 2027 the journal is planning to transition to the Subscribe to Open model, in order to continue offering $0 APCs for authors.
Because MSACL retains ownership, all existing relationships—including our Impact Factor, CiteScore, and indexing database connections—remain intact. Moving JMSACL from a commercial to an academic publisher strengthens our commitment to scientific communication. Through our partnership with Stanford University Press, we reaffirm our dedication to equity, impact, and barrier-free dissemination of high-quality research.
Interested in Contributing as a Reviewer?
One of the ongoing challenges in journal publishing is securing qualified reviewers for submitted manuscripts. A larger pool of potential reviewers helps the Editorial team move papers through the workflow efficiently and ensures that each manuscript receives a thorough, expert evaluation.
If you’re interested in contributing as a reviewer, you can opt-in during registration or update your preferences at any time by logging in, navigating to your Dashboard or Profile, and selecting the Reviewer role under Roles.
Thank you for supporting the journal and helping us maintain a rigorous peer‑review process!
Aims and Scope
The Journal of Mass Spectrometry and Advances in the Clinical Lab (JMSACL) is an open access journal that publishes peer-reviewed articles addressing mass spectrometry and OTHER advances in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology with a focus on development of diagnostic and related applications, including data science, to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. Submissions are NOT restricted to mass spectrometry as an analysis technique.
Beyond communication of the application of technologies in the routine clinical diagnostic setting, by publishing critically validated analytical protocols, the journal also addresses the translation of experimental techniques and analytical research into patient care, and the use of these technologies in clinical research and routine patient management. The scope of the journal is not restricted to any particular technology, but covers the entire range of technologies and advancements that are expected to impact the clinical lab.
The journal encourages submissions that have a clear path to patient care, including basic and translational research, and animal studies.
